PSP Go Price Drop – Should Consumers Expect One?Already pre-ordered that hot device known as the PSP Go? Might want to wait. With the recent price reduction of Sony’s Playstation 3 and the prices of competing devices, does it any longer make sense to keep the PSP Go’s price point where it is? Signs are pointing to a price "adjustment" right before it's launch.By Michael Ogunnubi - August 29, 2009 |

When Sony announced the PSP Go this year at the E3, everyone was….well everyone already knew thanks to rampant rumors that leaked the device nearly 2 months early. But still yet it was nice to see the device in person and official confirmed. It was looking like a very sweet device with features to wile out over. ![]() This was of course, all before we reached this point with Kaz Harai ![]() That’s right, $249.99 MSRP. People were a bit shocked to find that the new model was priced directly at the point where the original PSP-1000 came out at. Added to the PSP Go was 16GB of internal flash memory and Bluetooth 2.0 support. But certainly, those features and the redesign could not be the reason why the Go was hiked right back up to $249.99 could it? ![]() With the recent PS3 price drop and the introduction of the PS3 “slim” at $299.99 MSRP, the pricing of the PSP Go just didn’t make even more sense. With just a $50 price different, you can get a full fledged gaming console like the Playstation 3 which offers blu-ray, high definition gaming and much more. Similarly, you can get an Xbox 360 Elite console or a Xbox 360 Arcade unit for $50 cheaper or a Nintendo Wii for the same price. For specifically in the handheld market, the latest Nintendo DS model, the Lite retails are a MSRP of $129.99. Of course there is still the PSP-3000 model which retails for $169.99 for those wanting to go a bit cheaper. The first and latest retailer to offer Sony's new PSPgo at a price significantly below its confirmed recommended retail price is Tesco Direct by listing the console at GBP 199.97 on its online site; although it's not clear at present if the sub-GBP 200 price point will remain after the system is released. Could this be the first sign of things to come? Expect some major news at TGS later in September; one of which may be a PSP Go price adjustment which would build up some major news and hype, just a few weeks before its official launch October 1st.
