The Nyko Metal Pedal arrived at my doorstep in a rather
hefty box. When opened however, I felt just a little disappointed.
In the box, came the pedal and a splitter, which allows you
to plug two pedals into one drum set, providing some form of double bass setup,
this however doesn't work with Rock Band 1 drums so I couldn't test it out.
On to the pedal, which, upon first glance, is almost the
same as the stock Rock Band pedal. It seems the pedal itself is not actually
made of metal, it is in fact, made of similar plastic to the Rock Band pedal
with a similar shape, except with a snazzy looking metal plate screwed to the
pedal. After about a week or so of heavy use, the pedal did not feel like it
would break anytime soon, though neither does my stock pedal.
The Nyko model is however, larger than the one you are given with Rock Band,
and so provides ample room for your foot.
In action, the difference between the pedals is more immediately
noticeable. The first thing you'll find when using the Nyko pedal is how easy
it is to press. I had never had any problems with the Rock Band pedal, but
after using the Nyko pedal, it feels rather stiff. Another thing you'll find is
that the Nyko pedal travels less distance, in that, it goes down less.
Another cool feature of the Nyko pedal is its compatibility.
It works with both major rhythm games, Rock Band and Guitar Hero; with the aid
of a handy slider switch which lets you chose which drum set you would like to
use it for. Also, it works on drums for any platform, be it Playstation, Xbox
or Wii.
When it came to using the pedals, I felt I was hitting more
bass notes in the higher levels in comparison to stock pedals. This was mostly
because I had to push less and it was easier to push, meaning my chicken legs
didn't ache as much.
At the end of the day, I wouldn't recommend purchasing the
pedal as a direct upgrade from the stock set, there's just not that much to
justify buying it for that reason. However, if you do want a double bass setup
or have broken your original pedal, there is sense in buying this. |
